About Little Piggy
A little history of how I arrived at the Little Piggy.
I didn’t follow the traditional path to higher education. I started my family early, and it wasn’t until my late 20s that I had the opportunity to attend college.
As an adult student, I discovered a love for history, literature, and learning simply for the joy of it. I earned my undergraduate degree in History and Social Science, and a few years later found myself teaching in a Catholic school. I loved it so much that I returned to college and earned a Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education. I spent several years in the classroom and later homeschooled, too.
Along the way, I began creating educational resources for Teachers Pay Teachers and discovered how much I loved making educational coloring booklets. At the same time, I was taking every literature course I could at my community college and university—not because I needed the credits, but because I wanted to read the books and be part of the conversation.
I especially loved the online discussions that came with those classes. They felt like little book clubs, and I loved hearing what other readers noticed, questioned, and loved.
One day, while exploring graduate programs, I discovered a Graduate Certificate in Children’s Literature. I passed on it at the time because I wanted to pursue a full degree.
But I never really stopped thinking about children’s literature.
A few years later, I decided to go for it. Along the way, my love of picture books grew into a love of chapter books and books for older children, too. I discovered that these books are wonderful for busy adults—easy to pick up, rich with ideas, and full of stories worth sharing.
And I realized something:
I missed my little online book clubs.
So, I created one.
I’m Mrs. Johnson, and the Little Piggy is my place to share books, simple insights, and the joy of reading with other curious, like-minded people—including you.
And yes, I’m still creating educational coloring books! They’re designed for ages 8 to 108 and are available as simple, affordable digital downloads.
