Welcome to the Little Piggy Market!
My name is Mrs. Johnson, and I run things around here on the farm. Pull up a chair, settle in, and let me tell you how this little place came to be.
A few years ago, while I was finishing my graduate certificate in children’s literature, I found myself wishing for something that didn’t quite exist.
I said to my professor, “I wish there were a book club for children’s literature.”
She agreed.
And I never quite let go of that idea.
Over the years, I continued reading children’s picture books and chapter books, and I fell more and more in love with them. The stories, the illustrations, the questions they inspire, and the way a seemingly simple book can stay with you long after you’ve finished reading it.
Eventually, I started wondering:
Surely there are other people out there who want to read these books with me.
And so, the Little Piggy Book Club was born.
Come Read With Us
The Little Piggy Book Club is a place for grown-ups to return to the wonderful world of children’s literature—not because we have to, but because we want to.
Each month, we gather around a theme and explore picture books and chapter books together. I create the reading syllabus, conversation questions, and supplemental notes, and I help guide and moderate our growing community.
Most of what I write and share will live over on Substack, where I’ll be sharing reading suggestions, notes, observations, and plenty of bookish thoughts along the way.
Much of the content will be available for free. Paid subscribers are invited to take part in our book club chat, where the real fun begins: talking about what we’ve read, sharing perspectives, and discovering books we might never have picked up on our own.

Because sometimes you need to do something with your hands while your mind takes a breath. Coloring can be calming, creative, and wonderfully uncomplicated. There are no grades, no right answers, and no need to be
“good” at it. Just pick up a pencil and begin.

From STEMHAX
to Little Piggy
The Little Piggy Market has another little chapter in its story.
My former passion project was called STEMAX, where I created book spotlights and lesson plans for teachers and homeschooling families. Along the way, I began making mini readers and coloring books, too.
Eventually, I realized I didn’t want to make these things only for children.
Why should kids have all the fun?
So I decided to make them for
ages 8-108.
The Little Piggy Market’s digital readers, coloring books, and other creative downloads are designed to complement our monthly book club themes—or simply give you something enjoyable to do with your hands while you listen, think, reflect, or take a break from the screen.
